FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Basically it is an effiecient way, as the name implies, to transfer files on the Internet. We have all probably experienced the problems that arise when someone tries to email you a large file (larger than 10MB). Most email servers will block large attachments but in some cases, the large file can clog or deny your email box from receiving any more mail. FTP accounts are similar to email accounts but are designed to hold files rather than small email messages. FTP sites may be accessed with special feature-rich FTP programs or your Internet browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox). Large files can be stored in your FTP account for access whenever you are connected to the Internet. The FTP address might look something like ftp://myftpsite.com.
